![]()
Four hours tour in Cerveteri, approximately 40 kilometres off Rome to visit the Necropolis of the Banditaccia, extraordinary funerary site, one of the most monumental ones of the ancient etruscan civilization in the whole Mediterranean area. Along the main road, the Via of the Inferi, we see the most relevant Etruscan tombs excavated in the tufa in the area between the 8th and the 2nd century before Christ: the tomb of the Rilievi (Reliefs), so called for the beautiful stuccoes on the walls, the tomb of the Cinque Sedie ( Five Chairs) , the tomb of the Scudi and of thje Sedie (of the Shields and the Chairs) . These tombs bear the name from the internal disposition made of chairs-pedestals where the statues that would host the deceased people would stand. We will then visit the interesting structural design of the tomb of the Alcova (Nedroom), the tomb of the Capitelli (Capitals) and the one of the Vasi Greci (Greek Vases). |
